Gameplay and Design
As with many other pokies games, there are two varieties of symbol in the Cleopatra game: card symbols (9, 10, J, Q, K, A) and themed symbols, which are rarer than card symbols, but also worth more. With the exception of the Scatter symbol, a winning combination of symbols occurs when you match at least three symbols across one of the paylines.
There are also two unique symbols to watch out for as you play. The Cleopatra logo is the Wild symbol, and can substitute for all other symbols except for the Scatter symbol. While Wild symbols are typically useful, there is an extra bonus in Cleopatra, as any line completed with at least one Wild symbol will double that win.
The Sphinx is the Scatter symbol, and triggering three of them anywhere on the reels will earn you fifteen free spins with tripled winnings. It’s also worth mentioning that free spins can stack, up to 180, so while it is increasingly unlikely to happen, it’s not inconceivable to have chained Scatter symbols to earn significant winnings.
Cleopatra is well-designed, even if it’s not particularly flashy. As with any themed game, there’s an emphasis on iconography and sound design to get players invested, but where Cleopatra falls a bit short is a lack of persistent music throughout. While the drum beat that plays during spins is compelling and involving, that it stops and starts is more than a bit distracting.
There is a strong selection of themed icons, but the lack of unique animations for wins like other pokies games seems like a bit of a missed opportunity for player engagement. These are ultimately minor complaints for a game that is very fun provides ample rewards for players.
As an HTML 5 game, Cleopatra is a wonderful mobile pokie and should run well on all devices.
