Gameplay and Design
Doomsday Saloon’s background looks like something out of a dust-covered Spaghetti Western, and the music recreates the feeling of a dangerous frontier. We enjoyed how the symbols of scrappy outlaws, weapons, and survival gear add to the sense of lawlessness.
The gameplay took a bit of adjustment because it’s not your typical pokie. With cluster pays on a 6×8 grid, there are no traditional paylines. Instead, five or more matching symbols in a clump trigger a win. Once that happens, the cascade mechanic refills the gaps. This can lead to win after win from a single spin.
We found early spins fairly quiet, but once multipliers began appearing, the prizes started racking up. The anticipation of a Destroyer symbol wiping the board clean of low pay added to the experience, especially when the follow-up spins dropped in higher-value icons.
